Garner arrived in 1998 when he was only two years old.
Garner was a another pet monkey that became too much responsibility.
Garner was delivered from Iowa by his owners, so they could visit
with him before they returned to their home and to say a last good
bye.
I felt awful for the baby when his surrogate family abandoned him,
he cried and looked out the window for days. First he was pulled from
his natural mother, then abandoned by the nhp who he considered his
mom. Where is the fairness to the monkey in this?
When Garner arrived, our plans were to house him with two other juvenile
male macaques - I was amazed at his tiny size when he arrived and
new plans had to be made on where to keep him. We decided on an inside
cage with access to an outdoor enclosure that he would share with
our latest rescue, Tasha, the spot nose guenon.
Now that Tasha has socialized with him (remarkable because she had
never seen another monkey before arriving here) Garner is a rowdy,
hyper little macaque, a lot to put up with. He teased Tasha by stealing
her blanket and carrying it outdoors.
Although tiny upon arrival, Garner grew fast. He is now living with another
macaque, Pumpkin. |
