Katy is a 5 year old black white front capuchin, very well adjusted
for a pet animal. Although Katy Jo was well cared for, there comes
a time in most of their lives, when circumstances change for the owners,
making it necessary to find another home for the monkey. This happened
to Katy Jo.
I was contacted by the owner, and I was told the monkey was not unwanted,
but it was necessary she be placed in a sanctuary. I was told research
had been done, and Mindys Memory had been selected for Katy Jo. I
had an opening for Katy Jo with an elderly capuchin who was alone,
and who I knew would be an excellent babysitter for a new arrival.
Upon meeting, our resident monkey, Muggs, took Katy Jo outside with
her. I wonder if she thought it was safer away from us, just in case
we changed our minds about leaving her there?
The following morning, I went out to give some apples slices to Muggs
and Katy Jo. I laid several down on a shelf. Muggs came and took a
piece and carried it to Katy Jo, then came back and got one for herself.
Their intelligence and sharing is overwhelming to watch.
The same afternoon , a storm came up and Katy Jo started barking like
the capuchins do when frightened, and I witnessed Muggs putting her
arm around Katy Jo and trying to shift her inside. No small feat for
a 38 year of age monkey, which Muggs happens to be. This is another
happy ending, I hope I can witness many more who need us, here at
the sanctuary. |
